The land Slate Hill Cattle Company resides on has a rich history rooted in agriculture and community collaboration. Originally part of Cloverbud Ranch, this property has long been associated with sustainable farming practices. This land is conserved under an easement through the Aquidneck Land Trust (ALT), ensuring its preservation as open space dedicated to sustainable farming and education.
In recent years, the land became home to the Portsmouth AgInnovation Farm, a partnership between the Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District (ERICD) and the Portsmouth School District. This initiative focuses on educating students and community members about sustainable agriculture through hands-on experiences. The farm hosts STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education classes and after-school programs, aiming to reconnect individuals with the origins of their food.
Our commitment to sustainable farming and community education reflects the collaborative spirit of local organizations dedicated to preserving the agricultural heritage and environmental health of Aquidneck Island.
